“How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?” Romans 10:14
In 2007, when IAM first formulated our mission plan for the Creation to Christ book series, the focus was on sharing God’s story with illustrations among the illiterate people in poor villages. Now, 13 years later, that simple teaching method is still quite effective. A beautiful dimension of the story below is that the teacher today was once an orphan first taught the books in 2009 by Becky Miller.
Recently, while distributing maize flour during the Covid shutdown, Isaac, now a 24 year old university student and active member of our IAM family, stopped at the home of Pascal and Evelyn. Pascal, originally from Burundi, and Evelyn, from Uganda, live with their 6 children in a small hut. Isaac was touched by this family’s good nature and joy in the midst of their inadequate living conditions. He noticed the family shared only one small mattress.
Isaac asked the family if they would like him to share the Bible story books with them and any interested neighbors. The family and others received him the next week eager to see the story books and learn about God. The first day as Isaac concluded the teaching of The Creation, they told him, “For sure, we have never before heard that story.” Isaac teaches the group three times a week and will soon finish the series. Another group farther down the road requested Isaac to begin teaching them the stories, also. He has formed a new gathering with them. No lockdown can stop the spread of the love of Jesus shown through the kindness and compassion of His followers.
As spiritual needs were being met, Isaac wanted to bless the family with a physical blessing. IAM provided the funds to purchase two mattresses and two new blankets. Everyone was joyful–both the giver and the receivers.
