“Finding Joseph was a miracle,” said Isaac Asiimwe. Isaac has been part of our IAM family for 12 years. While his university remains closed due to the virus, he is tirelessly serving the poor and teaching Bible stories in the villages surrounding the new Shalom Hospital.
As Drs. Dan and Roy were deep in the bush distributing food to the most vulnerable, they came upon Joseph, age 53, living under a coffee tree covered with banana leaves. He had been without work or a place to live for some time. When Isaac saw the depth of Joseph’s need, he organized volunteers from Shalom Clinic, as well as nearby villagers, to build a mud house with metal roof sheets.
IAM eagerly partnered with Isaac to purchase building materials and necessary items including a blanket, mattress, cooking pan, and personal hygiene products. The work was completed in 3 days. Joseph was physically examined at the clinic and given a nutritional plan to help with malnourishment. “Thanks be to God, he now has a house and can sleep indoors comfortably,” Isaac concluded.
Joseph was once homeless, isolated and lonely. Today, he has a home and a caring community with new friendships, and through Isaac’s Bible story teachings is learning about Jesus.
“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” 3 John 1:2
Mr. Pascal and his wife Evelyn, with their 6 children, hosted the first Bible story teaching Isaac had in the area. Isaac invited Joseph to join. Later, this family all participated in building Joseph’s house. IAM provided resources for Isaac to purchase food for this new community of friends, and Evelyn now prepares an evening meal for all to share.
